Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos de Macau, S.A.R.L.”, was formerly a ferry company named “Companhia de Transportes de Passageiros Entre Macau e Ilhas”


  (Macau Island Passenger Transport Company) which provided ferry service between Macau and island. As a result of acquisition of the public transport companies that had been providing bus services to the citizens of Coloane and Taipa since the 50’s, started bus operation business in the later stage


  In 1974, the river-spanning bridge connecting Macau and Taipa was inaugurated to link up the road traffic of Macau, Taipa and Coloane, Macau transport then forged into a new historical period. “Macau Island Passenger Transport Company” purchased a number of modern buses to ply among Macau, Taipa and Coloane and match up the road transport development of the three islands.



  In the 80's, Macau saw a rapid economic and population growth, the Macau government was committed to meeting the citizens' increasing demand for public transport, has decided to encourage and improve the local bus services. In 1986, “Macau Island Passenger Transport Company” was reorganized and renamed “Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos de Macau, S.A.R.L.”, abbreviate to TCM. The Company advocated the government's transport policy and took the lead to purchase a number of the world's prestigious MERCEDES BENZ air-conditioned buses for the provision of service in Macau, Taipa and Coloane. This service enhancement changed the public's impression on bus services in Macau and has attracted more bus passengers



  In 1988, TCM spared no effort to coordinate with the government’s transport development plan. The Company made a continuous expansion of bus fleet, introduced modern air-conditioned TOYOTA and HINO buses of different sizes from Japan, increased the frequency of runs, and renovated the facilities of the compartments. To meet the public’s requirement for environmental protection, buses are overhauled and integrated with advanced facilities regularly for the perfection of mechanical performance and reduction of environmental pollution. Besides, TCM zealously popularized the use of monthly pass and “Senior Citizen Card” half-fare preferential pass (effective from January 1997) in addition to the promotion of other service enhancements, which are welcomed by the Macau citizens.
